SAN FRANCISCO—Shen Yun Performing Arts, the world’s premier classical Chinese dance performance, is coming back to San Francisco for its 2013 program with seven performances at the SHN Orpheum Theatre.

The New York-based performing arts company brings audience members an exhilarating performance of classical Chinese dance—capturing the spirit of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.

Shen Yun will show from March 20-24 at the SHN Orpheum Theatre, with tickets in high demand. In January the company already gave sold-out performances in San Jose and Sacramento.

Richard Connema, renowned critic for Talkin’ Broadway, saw Shen Yun perform multiple times in San Francisco over the past years.

“The dancing is superb,” Mr. Connema said after watching the performance. “The choreography is absolutely gorgeous—beautiful!”

Mr. Connema, who has reviewed an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 performances during his career, gave the performance a five-star rating.

“The best word to use was mind-blowing. And I watched around the audience and they all were so involved with everything going on,” he said.

Mayors from Oakland, Daly City, South San Francisco, Santa Clara, Mountain View, Redwood City, Sunnyvale, Novato, Piedmont, and Colma issued proclamations for Shen Yun’s upcoming performance in San Francisco.

“We are excited to see the return of this magnificent company to San Francisco and the Bay Area,” said the mayor of the city of Santa Clara, Jamie Matthews, in a proclamation.

“Shen Yun Performing Arts brings together some of the world’s foremost classically-trained Chinese dancers, choreographers, musicians, and vocalists,” he said.

Vice Mayor of San Jose, Madison Nguyen, wrote in statement that “Shen Yun has become the number one live performance sensation worldwide and has delighted, dazzled, and inspired audiences in over 100 cities on five continents.”

Shen Yun has performed every year in San Francisco since 2007. The last time it performed at the SHN Orpheum Theater was in 2008. Build in 1926 the Orpheum Theatre has been designated as a San Francisco Landmark.

Founded in 2006, Shen Yun has seen rapid growth—now performing with three companies, each featuring around 100 performers, around the world. Shen Yun currently performs simultaneously in North America, Europe, and Asia.

As a part of its 2013 world tour Shen Yun Performing Arts is performing in over 100 cities on five continents, gracing some of the world’s most prestigious stages such as New York’s Lincoln Center, Washington DC’s Kennedy Center, and Paris’s Palais des Congrès de Paris.

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has three touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world. Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company is performing in San Francisco, at the SHN Orpheum Theatre, March 20-24. For more information, visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org
