PHOENIX, Ariz.—Having had a “phenomenal” experience two years ago, a former director of technologies for American Express “had to come back” to see Shen Yun again.
Ms. Lynn Williams attended a performance of Shen Yun International Company at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix on Sunday and was again deeply moved.
“It captivates, it just reaches into your soul,” Ms. Williams said.
Shen Yun is a classical Chinese dance company from New York. Chinese artists, who felt called to share with the world the beauty and depth of Chinese traditions and culture, founded Shen Yun in 2006.
The artistry, the music and the choreography and the dancing is unbelievable.

“The artistry, the music, and the choreography and the dancing is unbelievable,” Ms. Williams said.
Every Shen Yun performance features pieces of classical Chinese dance and Chinese folk dance, as well as story-based dances.
Ms. Williams said she especially enjoyed these dances that depict classical Chinese stories, ancient myths, or tales from modern-day China.
She discovered in them “struggles throughout history that are just timeless.”
Two pieces are based in today’s China and show the persecution of practitioners of Falun Gong, a spiritual movement based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance.
Ms. Williams was moved to witness that despite the regime’s suppression, practitioners refused to give up their faith.
“It really touches my soul when people have profound beliefs in the midst of struggle and persecution that they still feel compelled to be who they are,” Ms. Williams said.
