WASHINGTON—Philanthropists Norman and Helen Kamerow were enthralled with Shen Yun Performing Arts after seeing the company at the Kennedy Center Opera House on Saturday night.

“We have been coming to the Kennedy Center since it opened in 1971, and I would rate this show as one of the top 10 we’ve seen in all those years,” said Mr. Kamerow.

“It’s a wonderful experience,” he added. “Colorful, beautifully done, so expertly executed—it’s just a beautiful show.”

Mr. Kamerow is one of the founding partners of the Capital Financial Group, which provides investment advising services, and has won multiple awards in several different fields.

Helen Kamerow used to co-own The Hallway Gallery in Georgetown and continues to paint and sculpt.

They both serve on the U.S. Advisory Council for the Save a Child’s Heart Foundation.

New York-based Shen Yun travels the globe reviving the ancient Chinese culture.

“For 5,000 years divine culture blossomed in the land of China,” the company’s website states. “Mankind’s treasure was nearly lost, but through captivating music and dance, Shen Yun is bringing a divine culture back to life.”

Mrs. Kamerow said the performance was a delight.

“The dancers, the singers, the costumers, everything was absolutely wonderful,” she said.

The ancient culture provides Shen Yun with much material for short dance pieces, depicting different legends, stories, and ethnic groups from the dawn of the civilization up through the present day.

Yet, despite presenting the ancient culture, the company cannot currently travel to China, where the traditional culture has been all but demolished by the ruling communist regime.

“Completely independent of the Chinese regime, we enjoy the artistic freedom of New York to bring these ancient legends and virtues back to life,” the company’s website states.

Mrs. Kamerow said the performance “was very heartwarming,” but she can’t understand why Shen Yun can’t perform in China.

“The people are suppressed and that they want their freedom,” she said. “ But it’s a wonderful show.”
