COSTA MESA, Calif.—Jackie Alton thought Shen Yun Performing Arts show at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa on Friday, was amazing. She had been a dancer and now works for semiconductor company Microsemi in Aliso Viejo.
She found out about the show from a booth at the Irvine Spectrum. “It looked beautiful, with all the colors and the costumes … so we’re here!”
Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company, presenting 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture though story-based dances that bring to life legends of Chinese history.
Ms. Alton used to be a ballet dancer and was delighted to be introduced to classical Chinese dance. “It’s a little bit of martial arts, and dance, and it’s very energetic, you could definitely feel the energy and the emotion and the music … it’s wonderful. Really, really impressed.”
“A performance by Shen Yun is a presentation of traditional Chinese culture as it once was: a study in grace, wisdom, and the virtues distilled from the five millennia of Chinese civilization.” the Shen Yun website explains.
“It’s quite different – the technique, and the dance, and the costumes, very bright, very colorful. I don’t know, it makes my heart happy.”
Ms. Alton also said it was good to experience the spiritual part of Chinese culture through the show.
