ATLANTA—Leatrice Streeter, a divisional executive for a payroll company, attended the Shen Yun Performing Arts matinee at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre with her young daughter on Jan. 6.
Based in New York, Shen Yun was established in 2006 with the mission of reviving 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture.
“I think it’s great—I love the culture, I love the colors, and how graceful the dancers are,” Mrs. Streeter said.
“A performance by Shen Yun is a presentation of traditional Chinese culture as it once was: a study in grace, wisdom, and the virtues distilled from the five millennia of Chinese civilization,” according to Shen Yun’s website.
Mrs. Streeter brought her daughter to Shen Yun because she wanted to introduce her to dance.
“It’s been great,” she said. As a parent concerned with bringing a young child to a theater, Mrs. Streeter said that her daughter did especially well at Shen Yun. “They actually kept her attention throughout the entire part of the show. This is the most energy she’s had throughout,” she said, as they were now outside the theater. Her small child was playing on the balcony and under a red silk-upholstered bench. An abandoned Skittle drew her momentary attention, but was determined to be hygienic. “Yech!” said the little girl.
Mrs. Streeter gave a heart-felt appreciation for the performers and artists. “I want to thank you, because it’s been a great show,” she said.
She said that it was educational for her daughter and a wonderful “first time experience” to share together. “We wanted to see if she would like it and what it would bring out of her,” Mrs. Streeter said.
Mrs. Streeter felt a lot of emotion from the performance and said she felt many emotions throughout the show. “Some of the shows have been funny, some of them have been very kind of like the love-story type. So, it’s just theatrical and I just love every piece of it. It’s beautiful,” she said.
