HOUSTON—Jason Bleker, an industrial inspector, said “it was a great experience,” attending Shen Yun Performing Arts on Dec. 29 at the Houston Jones Hall for the Performing Arts.
“It was my first time seeing the show. It was really nice. I would encourage everyone to come see the show. It’s very, very pleasing,” said Mr. Bleker.
Based in New York, Shen Yun has a mission to revive 5,000 years of Chinese culture—all but lost by 60-plus years of communist rule. At its heart is classical Chinese dance and music, presented in a collection of short stories featuring award-winning artists, dancers, vocalists, musicians, alike.
Mr. Bleker was particularly moved by the action. “It’s positive. It’s a great show to come see!” he said.
“I loved it,” said Lacie Smith, a financial advisor and insurance agent.
“I’ve never experienced the classic Chinese dance. I think it’s great.”
Classical Chinese dance is grounded in 5,000 years of a divinely-inspired culture, and is a dance art form built upon a deep foundation of traditional aesthetics, rich with expressive power, the Shen Yun program says.
“I enjoyed it all. I particularly like the singing,” said Mrs. Smith.
“I think all of it was wonderful. The action scenes were wonderful. It’s beautiful,” she said.
It Was Amazing
Greg Bruce, an underwriter for commercial insurance, said he loved the show.
“The music, the dancing—it was great,” said Mr. Bruce.
Mr. Bruce was truly happy to see Shen Yun. “I enjoyed it. I’m happy to see it,” he said.
Julissa Segovia, an accountant at an oil and gas company, came to see Shen Yun after seeing the billboard ads around town. She used to dance in school.
“I loved it. It was beautiful. It was touching,” said Mrs. Segovia. “I used to dance, but it just brought back memories of when I danced at school.”
“I’ve always wanted to see it. This is my first time seeing the performance,” said Mrs. Segovia.
“It was amazing just seeing them doing flips without their hands. That was my favorite part. It was beautiful.”
