LONDON—Dance school principal Lesley Ann Eden loved every minute, from start to finish, of Shen Yun Performing Arts’ Saturday night performance at the London Barbican.

“The dancing is very, very beautiful and has a wonderful spiritual message,” she said after the performance. “And it is so moving.”

“In the opening number where the movement flows so beautifully, it seems to be based on a circle, which is the eternal feeling of love,” she said. “And I loved it—absolutely loved everything about it.”

The New York based Shen Yun seeks to revive what it describes as 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture, and at the heart of a Shen Yun performance is one of the most comprehensive and highly expressive dance systems—classical Chinese dance.

A professionally trained, qualified choreographer and dance school owner, Ms. Eden said that it is of vital importance that the dancers imbue their movements with feeling and intention. She also expressed that Shen Yun’s performers truly achieve this deeper level of communication with the audience.

“This is a wonderful message for the people of today,” she said, noting that the performance evoked a sense of peace, harmony, love, and tradition.

“I was very moved,” she said. “The harmony of a dance is everything.”

Ms Eden said that the overall performance was harmonious on many levels, from the harmony of the music itself through to the overall themes. The blending of the choreography, the music, and the dancers’ inner expression was fantastic, she said.

“The company presents a wonderful, harmonious blend of the past, of the present, and [of] looking to the future,” she said. “I’ve travelled the world, and I choreographed many, many pieces. I’m so happy and so pleased to witness this.”
