MONTREAL, Canada—Among Shen Yun Performing Arts’ audience at the Thursday night opening show at Place des Arts was Jerome Pruneau, the CEO of Artistic Diversity of Montreal, an organization that focuses on promoting culturally-diverse professional artists.

Mr. Pruneau said Shen Yun offered a great cultural contribution to the artistic sphere.

“Every culture brings something to other cultures and an artistic point of view … Art is just one of the most rewarding forms of expression which we have through these possible exchanges,” he said of the show.

“Shen Yun brings a lot to this level,” Mr. Pruneau said.

The New York based company puts on a brand new show each year consisting mainly of classical Chinese dance with some folk dances and ethnic dances China’s diverse ethnic groups as well.

Shen Yun Performing Arts expanded Mr. Pruneau’s vision of Chinese culture. He described the first part of the show as a “great discovery [of] the Chinese culture.”

He was grateful for many of the show’s features. “I greatly appreciated the orchestrated live music, with all the musicians, the beautiful costumes, artistic quality, technical skills of the dancers and the synchronization,” he said.

Mr. Pruneau was also impressed with extent of the interaction between the dancers on stage and the scenes on the digitally projected backdrops.

“There is a very interesting dimension of tradition and modernity,” he said.

Shen Yun’s dynamic backdrops provide vividly animated settings for each dance, creating a world where heaven and earth are one.

“It brings a dimension that is both technically interesting and it gives colour, an animation with different dancers, it gives them a dual dimension,” he added.
