BRISBANE, Australia—Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company’s presentation of classical Chinese dance and music opened at QPAC’s Lyric Theatre on Feb. 1 to an appreciative audience.
Among them were property investment manager Marc Halpin and psychologist Dr. Angela Maguire, who were both experiencing the New York-based performance for the first time.
“I thought it was fantastic, I really enjoyed it. Just an eclectic mix of dancing that I’ve never seen before,” Mr. Halpin said.
Through the universal language of music and dance, Shen Yun weaves a wondrous tapestry of heavenly realms, ancient legends and heroic modern-day epics, the company website explains. “Shen Yun presents themes of compassion and courage with stunning beauty and tremendous energy, leaving audiences uplifted and inspired,” it adds.
Ms. Maguire said, “I really liked the colour and the movement, I really enjoyed that.”
According to the website, a Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending the sounds of both East and West, breathtaking backdrops, splendid costumes, singers—together creating an experience that’s leaving millions in awe.
Mr. Halpin said he would recommend the show to others.
“I would say that it’s an educational experience as well. And it’s a fantastic night. I think it was two hours, thereabouts, so thoroughly entertaining,” he said.
Ms. Maguire enjoyed the cultural aspects of Shen Yun. “I used to watch a bit of Chinese opera in the afternoons, so it was good relating to that. Yes, I love the music,” she said.
