PHOENIX—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company opened to a sold out performance at the ASU Gammage Theater on Friday, Jan. 27. Part of a 3-show tour, the Friday evening performance was a huge hit with Phoenix theatergoers. Among the many delighted audience members was Mesa Air Group Vice President, Paul Foley.
“I think it’s very professionally done,” he exclaimed. “I think the performers are extremely well trained and athletic, and the music is just terrific.”
New York-based Shen Yun’s stated mission is to revive China’s glorious 5,000-year culture through the performing arts, and Mr. Foley was not disappointed. He was particularly touched by the dance Sleeves of Silk in which the dancers express their feelings through flowing silk costumes with extended silk sleeves.
Shen Yun presents performances featuring different dynasties, cultural figures, and ethnic dances, all from the rich and diverse Chinese culture and history. How The Monkey King Came To Be was another dance that left a lasting impression on Mr. Foley.
Mr. Foley, who said he knew little about Chinese history and culture before seeing Shen Yun, felt that he left the show with a much broader view of traditional Chinese culture.
“It [was] just a wonderful evening out,” he said.
