ATLANTA—“If I said thank you, I would feel like I’m not saying enough by a thousand times, or maybe ten thousand times,” said Dr. Michael J. Duckett, a social scientist and physician, of Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on Jan. 8.

Dr. Duckett is the founder of Upgrading Life and author of many books and programs focusing on improving human achievement. He is an entrepreneur who has owned over several businesses worldwide and appeared on numerous television and radio shows, according to his website.

Dr. Duckett was moved by the New York-based Shen Yun’s revival of 5,000 years of the divinely inspired Chinese culture through traditional Chinese dance, elaborate costumes, stunning backdrops, and music.

Dr. Duckett said he was touched and exhilarated by the finale of the show.

“To me, the end exhibited, or expressed, [the] complete show, which was the East met the West and there was a harmony about it,” Dr. Duckett said. “It did come together perfectly, and it stimulated a lot of emotion in me.”

Traditional Chinese culture values principles like “benevolence and justice, propriety and wisdom, respect for the heavens, and divine retribution,” according to Shen Yun’s website. These principles come through in the stories Shen Yun perform with classical Chinese dance.

“I could see a lot of underlying messages I felt that could come across to all of us, and the big message was kindness,” Dr. Duckett said. “Kindness and humility around that kindness … to give, just to give, and that is just what you are as a person.”

Friends brought him to the performance, and he said he was grateful to them as well.

Thinking of the artists and what he would like them to know, he said, “It gives me a little bit of an emotional experience. I felt you in my own essence, in your essence.”

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has three touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world. Shen Yun’s International Company will present one more performance at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre on Jan. 9.  For more information, visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org
