HOUSTON—Joe Koshy, a business owner, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts at Houston Jones Hall for the Performing Arts on Jan. 1.
He described New York-based Shen Yun as diverse and refreshing, with many stories from different periods of Chinese history presented on stage.
“The variety is excellent. It keeps you going and is fast-paced enough and short enough that you can go from one to another,” he said.
He said he appreciated seeing the depth and breadth of classical Chinese dance, and especially the unison in the large-scale group dances.
“It seems like it requires a lot of discipline and training in order to achieve what they have done in such a synchronized manner,” he said.
Mr. Koshy said he enjoyed the Shen Yun Orchestra, and said he also found the integration of the dance and digital backdrops new and refreshing.
“There is a lot going on. Especially where we were. I wish I could see the dances again, that way I can catch what’s going on on the other side—a lot going on,” he said.
