PHOENIX—Shen Yun Performing Arts Company graced the stage of Arizona State University’s Gammage on Friday evening, Jan. 27. The unique structure designed by Frank Lloyd Wright opened its doors to a sold-out performance.

Shen Yun is based out of New York and each year creates a brand new production with original musical scores, choreography, costumes and digitally mastered backdrops along with ancient stories from the various regions and historical periods of China’s 5,000 year history.

Dancers, soloists and virtuoso musicians that make up Shen Yun Performing Arts Company attract audience members from a variety of creative circles.

Ms. Keiko Conn, Founder and President of Touch of Creation Cultural Events, in Scottsdale, Arizona, appreciates how beauty and love endear us to one another. Her business, Touch of Creation Cultural Events (TCCE) specializes in unique programs that create a gateway of cultural awareness between East to West.

“We’ve been waiting so long for this type of show. This is an ice-breaker,” she said.

Having endured more than 60 years of cultural deprivation, the people of mainland China are unable to see Shen Yun perform. Under the Communist regime anything that embraces the divine is banned while millions of people around the globe enjoy the revival of China’s ancient culture.

“I think this show is perfect for today’s society. This is very easy to understand, using new techniques, backdrops, animation and the sound. Everything’s a beautiful combination,” said Ms. Conn.

Originally from Japan, Ms. Conn previously lived in San Francisco and had grown accustomed to seeing a lot of Chinese culture and Chinese influenced art.

“This is a wonderful movement for world peace,” she affirmed.
