LOS ANGELES—Milka Miller, president of a wine distribution company that operates throughout Southern California, watched for the second time Shen Yun Performing Arts, which was sold out Jan. 25 at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
Mrs. Miller was enthusiastic about the performance.
She said that from the music, the dancers, the stories, and the backdrops, “I have no words to express how much I really liked it. If I could buy more tickets, I would’ve come back again tomorrow and Sunday, but they’re sold out.”
Shen Yun is a New York-based classical Chinese music and dance company that tours to 100 cities worldwide each year with a mission to restore and revive China’s 5,000 years of traditional culture.
“A Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending the sounds of both East and West, breathtaking backdrops, splendid costumes, vocalists—together creating an experience that’s leaving millions in awe,” says the company’s website.
Mrs. Miller came to she performance with her husband and friends.
“Five thousand years of traditions, so how can you not see it? That explains why every show is sold out,” she said. “The show is fantastic.”
Mrs. Miller watched Shen Yun two years ago, and then she saw it advertised recently in a newspaper. “I just had to come back. It’s just mesmerizing,” she said.
Rather than any particular feature of Shen Yun, it was the entire production that drew her back.
“It’s everything, everything, [the] music, beauty, costume, background, the story. Especially in today’s China [where] you can not even do this today, and that is so sad,” she said.
Mrs. Miller was referring to the current environment in Mainland China in which one cannot see a performance like Shen Yun, which is deeply spiritual and openly shows respect for the divine.
Shen Yun creates an all-new production each year, and Mrs. Miller plans on returning.
“I just hope you continue doing what you are doing and you come back, and we’ll see you again,” she said, in a message for the artists.
