OTTAWA, Canada—“The dancing is fantastic. Perfection. The music wonderful. And the show uplifting spiritually,” said Greg Kells, president and CEO of business brokerage firm Sunbelt Canada after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts Thursday at the National Arts Centre.
Mr. Kells came to the opening night performance of Shen Yun’s Ottawa run last year as well as this year, and describes himself as a fan of the show.
Last year he brought all his staff to see Shen Yun, he said.
“I enjoyed it so much last year, I didn’t want to miss it,” he said.
He said Shen Yun was a celebration of history and spirituality—“A celebration of the good things in people’s hearts.”
“The message is about listening to your heart, doing what’s right, and living life based on what you know, what you’ve learned, and what your ancestors taught you,” he said.
Shen Yun was founded in 2006 with a mission to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture, a culture where loyalty, filial piety, and veneration for the divine were cherished and celebrated.
The performing arts group has three equally large companies touring the world, each with a philharmonic orchestra that features Chinese instruments leading the melodies.

“They’re all looking very happy on stage,” Mr. Kells said of the dancers.
Shen Yun’s website explains that many of the dances are mini-dramas that draw upon stories and legends from Chinese history, from the Yellow Emperor of China’s founding to stories from today’s troubled times where the ideology of the Chinese Communist Party stands in stark contrast to traditional Chinese culture.
Mr. Kells said the dancers portrayed the stories very well and that the way in which the choreography, music, and stories were combined was well done.
Sunbelt Canada is a brokerage business specializing in sales and acquisitions of companies too large for real estate agents and too small for merger and acquisition firms.
