DALLAS—The performers in Shen Yun Performing Arts pleased two business owners on Jan. 3, though pleased might be an understatement.

“I do love the show; the show is amazing,” said Ms. Riki Gedalia, who owns several businesses. “Actually, I was going to go home now and fax all my friends and text them, and tell them to come and see it.”

“It’s just historical,” Ms. Gedalia continued. “You can see the history, you can see the love the performers have for what they’re doing. It’s just very elevating.”

New York-based Shen Yun criss-crosses the world, stopping for performances in cities such as Paris, London, and New York, with one mission: reviving the nearly lost, 5,000 year old, divinely inspired Chinese culture, according to the company’s website.

The company has a core of classical and folk and ethnic Chinese dance, while the dancers are adorned with handmade costumes and accentuated by digital backdrops and a live orchestra.

“The costumes are wonderful; the silk is amazing,” said Ms. Gedalia after seeing Shen Yun at AT&T Performing Arts Center-Winspear Opera House. “It’s just a very amazing experience here in Dallas.”

Shen Yun at this time cannot currently travel to the cultural home of China because of the communist regime; the company was founded in 2006 to bring back to life the culture that the regime had all but demolished, according to the company website

“It is outside of China that Shen Yun’s artistic creators have the ability to freely express themselves and their ancient culture,” states the company’s website. “Their courage to speak up is an integral part of Shen Yun’s spirit.”

While wanting to tell the performers “they’re amazing,” Ms. Gedalia also expressed hope that “one day we can do this in China.”

Another business owner attending the Jan. 3 performance, Ms. Maggie Sova, owner of Bova Diamonds, said the performance benefited her in multiple ways.

“It was so beautiful, very enlightening, and the costumes were phenomenal,” she said. “I just felt so relaxed, watching each artist perform, and I would recommend it for everyone to come and see it.”

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has three touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world. Shen Yun’s International Company will be performing at Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Jan. 5-6, and at Fox Theatre from Jan. 8-9. For more information, visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org
