SAN JOSE, Calif.—Deanna Colistra was a satisfied customer after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts, Jan 4.
“It was fantastic,” said Ms. Colistra who works in sales operations for Apple. “I would definitely come next year and see the show.”
She said she found the New York-based show very interesting and learned more about Chinese culture.
The mission of Shen Yun is to revive the wisdom of traditional China whose values and virtues kept the Chinese civilization alive for five millennia, almost destroyed by 60-plus years of communist rule, according to the company’s website.
Shen Yun performs classical Chinese dance and ethnic dances that bring to life the styles of different dynasties and the unique characteristics of China’s dozens of ethnic groups.
Classical Chinese dance is one of the most complex and expressive art forms in the world with hundreds of gestures and difficult leaps and flips for performers to master, the website continued.
Highlights of the show for Ms. Colistra were the dancing, the colors of the hundreds of hand-made costumes, and the narration of the bilingual emcees who tell jokes and introduce the pieces.
“I highly recommend it,” Ms. Colistra said of the performance.
