ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Admiral Brian Jones saw Shen Yun Performing Arts with his sister at the California Center for the Arts on Dec. 30. “I think it’s very enlightening about Chinese cultures, and I was encouraged to see that the performers are willing to share that with us,” said Admiral Jones.
Shen Yun Performing Arts’ mission is to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture.
Ms. Sheila Jones is Admiral Jones’ sister and a Navy Diplomatic Relations Specialist. She said she felt very aware of the diversity of Chinese culture. “Obviously there are a lot of different cultures across the centuries of Chinese people, and it seemed like they were all there on stage together. It was really wonderful.”
Chinese Classical dance has a long history of thousands of years, during which it soaked up profound wisdom from every era and dynasty, and it became a complete system of dance embodying traditional aesthetic principles, according to Shen Yun website.
The precise and rich choreography was a new experience for Admiral Jones, “It’s amazing. I’ve never seen that before!”
The Shen Yun Orchestra blends together Western and Chinese instruments to produce a vibrant and exquisite harmonious sound which expresses the best of both cultures, according to the Shen Yun website. “Oh, it was fantastic! I like the blend of Chinese and American instruments,” said Admiral Jones.
Ms. Jones said she is going to encourage her friends to come by telling them they have to see Shen Yun, “As a great classical piece, as kind of a dance form that’s not really seen. Even if you’ve seen ballet or modern dance, this is something new entirely.”
As for Admiral Jones, “I’m looking forward to next year!”
