LOS ANGELES—“I adored it. It was fabulous. Very much so,” said Marcie Rose after seeing the Shen Yun Performing Arts sold-out performance at the Dorothy Chandler on Friday night, Jan. 25. “The grace was just incredible.”
Ms. Rose, a healer, appreciated the different facets of Shen Yun’s artistic excellence. “The costumes, the backdrop, the dancing, the singing—Everybody should see it!” she said.
Based in New York, Shen Yun is the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company. Presenting 5,000 years of divinely inspired Chinese culture through story-based dances, Shen Yun brings to life stories of ancient China up to today.
Ms. Rose also appreciated the stories portraying the persecution of Falun Gong in China. She said. “I’m glad you guys are doing that.”
As part of the Shen Yun performance, contemporary dances show the bravery and courage of practitioners of Falun Dafa, a peaceful, spiritual mind-body discipline, who are being persecuted in China today.
Shen Yun’s performances focus on classical Chinese dance, along with folk and ethnic dances, a live orchestra with both Eastern and Western instruments, and solo vocalists and musicians.
‘I love the spirituality’
Richard Pina, a painter, also attended the Friday evening’s performance and enjoyed the spirituality imbedded in the different acts. “I love the spirituality—wonderful,” he said. “I love the idea that spirituality has been here for thousands of years and is strong here, now. Beautifully done. Beautifully done.”
Utilizing an interactive state-of-the-art digital backdrop, Shen Yun is able to add many qualities of fantasy into their storytelling. “I like the technology where the people were flying—that was beautiful. It enhanced the choreography on the stage,” added Mr. Pina.
Overall, Mr. Pina was very impressed by Shen Yun’s performance. “Everybody should enjoy being here and seeing it—this great effort—brought to this country by ancient China,” he said.
