In the second round of the Hong Kong Cricket Association Sunday Championship three matches were played on Sunday Oct 6: LSW JKN against Shaffi’s Vagabonds; HKCC Optimists against Scorpions; and LSW Knights against Sri Lankan Cricket Club.

At Mission Road, Shaffi’s Vagabonds won the toss and batted first but were held down to a total 164 runs off their 50 overs. In reply LSW JKN made light work of reaching the target. After losing three quick wickets Babar Hayat got down to the task of winning the match and hit an impressive 110 not out reaching the 164 total in 28 overs.

Club coach of LSW, Ehsan Khan talking with the Epoch Times was very up-beat about the LSW Club.

“Today we bowled so well. The opening bowlers, we were in a bit of trouble, but with the spin bowling, we were so good. Shakeel, Moner Dar and myself all bowled well,” said Khan.

Talking about the LSW Club at all levels of the game, he described how well the club is going.

“We have played three T20 matches. We lost against KCC, but have won our last two matches against the Pakistan Association and HKCC. And yesterday our club won all matches U11, U13, U16, U19 and the Saturday League.

“This year we have a total of 28 teams, but we have a little bit of a problem because we don’t have a ground so we have to keep booking nets for practice,” explained Khan.

On the international front, Khan is disappointed at the cancellation of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes.

“The Sixes being cancelled is bad news for the Hong Kong Cricketers.

“A lot of people want to see the Sixes and it’s because of Sixes that the game of cricket is so popular.

“With no Sixes tournament the cricket will go backwards,” he believes.

At the HKCC ground, HKCC Optimists put into bat by their club-mates, surprised HKCC Scorpions with a big total of 314 for 8 wickets off their allotted 50 overs. T.J. McMahon scored 82, D.A. Jacquier hit a fine 53 and all of the other batsmen chipping in with useful scores.

In reply HKCC Scorpions could only muster 197 all out in 48.2 overs. The highlight of their innings was R. Raja’s 81 not out batting at number nine. The normal big guns of the Scorpion team failed to get going. Skipper Charlie Bright went for nought, bowled by A.T Norwood, and M.J. Lyons was stumped by Jacquier for 28, off the bowling of A.S. Mandlik. Mandlik went on to take three wickets for 20 and I. Coulson took three for 38 in their 10 overs. This was a good win for Optimists.

In the match at PVKR, LSW Knights also had a good day beating Sri Lankan’s Cricket Club by 104 runs. Knights batted first scoring 304 from their 50 overs, but SLCC were dismissed for 200 in 41 overs.
