A Houston woman was mauled by a pack of around 15 dogs as she was walking to a bus stop in the morning.
Local station KHOU-TV reported that Maria Arcos, 52, was attacked at 6 a.m. when she was going to work.
The woman was under an overpass when stray dogs--of all different breeds--attacked her.
“It’s a pack mentality. That can happen when there’s an aggressive act by one and it continues,” City of Houston Animal Control Manager Chris Glaser told the station.
A local railroad employee call for help when she saw the attack.
“With that many dogs on her, she was being drug up and down the street,” Glaser added.
Her family said that she was still conscious after the attack but suffered a heart attack during the ordeal.
“Supposedly in 48 hours, if she doesn’t get better, she’s not going to make it,” stepson Oscar Reyes told KHOU. “[They bit] her arms, her legs, her neck -- they cover her,” Reyes said. “They was eating her. The dogs was eating her to the bone.”
Earlier this month, a woman was killed by a stray dog near Houston in Liberty County. Officials told ABC News the woman was killed by a dog who turned on her after she tried to protect another one.
