The sights and sounds of the holiday are starting to appear in New York City. On Thursday the camels, sheep, and donkey that appear in the world-famous Radio City Christmas Spectacular came out for a meet and greet on 6th Avenue to have their picture taken and meet some of their fans.
Ted, Carol, and Azuri the camels, appeared with the Rockettes which I felt made a nice contrasting photo—bright, shiny Rockettes vs ruminating camels.
The animals will be used during the show’s Live Nativity number show, a favorite of fans around North America. We were instructed not to touch the camels, but I couldn’t resist giving Ted’s nose a quick nudge.
During the show’s nine-week run, the animals live in hay-filled stalls at the world famous Radio City Music Hall. Between the six of them, the animals will consume 450 bottles of water, 340 bales of hay, and 560 loaves of seven-grain bread.
This will not be the last time Ted and co. will be making an appearance on 6th Ave. During the show’s run, to stretch their legs and get some fresh air, the animals are taking for midnight strolls around the block. I would love to capture the look of the bystanders who round the corner and find themselves face to face with a camel in a snowstorm.
