The ring of mountains around Cordova, the second largest city in the country, could not restrict the magnificence of the divine show or the audience's approval.
Mr. Costa, an attorney who has his own legal practice, said he felt he was witnessing “something that an ordinary person wouldn't know about.”
Shen Yun creates and performs works that center upon the true, divinely bestowed culture of humankind, and seeks to renew humanity’s true, rightful cultural heritage.
Mr. Costa felt the show could justifiably be called “of a culture unknown.”
Besides coming to understand “something more about Chinese culture and traditions, from what one normally does not know,” he thought there was also a deeper message about contemporary China.
“I feel that there was a message that is contrary to the prevailing Chinese regime. I am unaware of the goings on over there, what is the real political situation in China. But, it works well as a characteristic of the show, it works,” he said.
The Company expresses a deep resonance with traditional Chinese culture that imbues a dancer’s movements with expressive power. So, the dancer is capable of portraying a given figure’s disposition or mood and also the unique expressions of a certain age, whatever the land or time.
“Everything is very good. The costumes are very good, the stage design, the dancers, the way it was presented, the tenors, all very good,” Mr. Costa said.
Will Recommend Shen Yun to Friends and Family
Mr. Segura, an electro-mechanical engineer, was also in the audience.
He is a family man and had come to see the show with his wife. He was particularly impressed with the dance called Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution.
He felt so moved it was hard for him to talk about the dance. “The one with the persecution of the family, that was a great impact to myself. ... the situation of the family and the little girl … and all of that.”
This dance tells the story of a father who is persecuted for practicing Falun Dafa, a traditional spiritual discipline. Oppression is a painful reality for many millions of persons in China today but what unfolds in this dance is a message of hope shown in the long-standing Chinese belief that good people are ultimately rewarded, even if not in this lifetime.
Mr. Segura found it fantastic when the father went to heaven. “It really surprised me. A beautiful surprise. It was very nice.”
His wife Vicentina said she liked all the performances. “They are very beautiful, very nicely done, very beautiful,” she said wholeheartedly.
“A month ago we were given a flyer,” Mr. Segura said, “and as soon as we read the information we decided that we’ll be here today.”
“We also go to eat Chinese food as well—in New York, Miami, Buenos Aires.”
They were emphatic that their friends and family should to come to the show. “Absolutely,” Mr. Segura said, “I hope that tomorrow or the day after, my children come with their spouses and the kids. I hope they come!”
New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts has one more show in Cordoba, Argentina, on July 18. After which they will perform in Westchester, New York for one night only, on August 2.
