BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—David, a Londoner, and his partner, Maria were among the crowd at the Shen Yun Performing Arts show on July 3, in the Auditorio Belgrano. David had seen an advertisement a few weeks previously, and bought tickets soon after. He and Maria were rewarded with the opportunity to see a true Chinese cultural show—a rarity anywhere in the world.

The estancia David owns is a property in the countryside, where locals and tourists go to unwind. Activities include horseriding, fishing, and enjoying the "traditional gaucho life-style." (Gauchos are Argentine cowboys).

New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts, on its 2009 World Tour, amazed another Argentine audience with its authentic, traditional Chinese culture. The artists depicted stories from China's history, past to present, with song, dance, and music.

“This is very good because here in Argentina, this type of show doesn’t exist," Maria said.

Both said that all the dances were very good. "Each one is different in its own style because each one represents a different thing. They are all beautiful," she said. She also praised the morals and values the artists depicted through the narrative dances.

"Very nice—there are many beautiful colors,” David said. "I liked the part with the drums [Drummers of the Tang Court]. The music was very nice.” He said the performance “shows different religions, it shows history. The songs … are songs with so much feeling—very spiritual."

The two had heard that the show is banned in communist China. "It is sad because the values brought out by the show are very spiritual—great peace, harmony, and tranquility," Maria said.

David also spoke of the two contemporary dances that portray the Communist Party’s violence against good people, and Maria concurred: "It [the regime] seems to be another China. I want to think that this [show] is the original China."

Shen Yun will be performing in Buenos Aires until July 5. Santiago, Chile, will host three shows from July 10 to 12. The show will then return to Argentina on July 16, this time in Cordoba, with three shows until July 18.
