OTTAWA—Canada continued their domination of the ice hockey world junior championships, dumping Sweden 5-1 to claim a fifth straight title on Monday.

The Swedes, who lost the gold medal to Canada in overtime a year ago, fell into an early hole when P.K. Subban converted a power-play chance 38 seconds into the opening period to give the Canadians the lead which they never relinquished.

Angelo Esposito accounted for the scoring in the second period while Cody Hodgson added a power-play tally 33 seconds into the third to make it 3-0.

Joakim Andersson spoiled Dustin Tokarski's shutout bid midway through the third but Jordan Eberle and Hodgson hit back with empty net goals to seal the victory, triggering wild celebrations among a tournament record crowd of 20,380 that included Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
