NEW YORK—Philadelphia goalie Martin Biron recorded a season-high 40 saves against his former team as the visiting Flyers shut out the Buffalo Sabres 3-0 on Friday.

Biron, who spent more than eight seasons in Buffalo before landing with the Flyers during the 2006-07 season, put together his first shutout of the season in helping Philadelphia win its fourth game in the last five contests.

The 31-year-old netminder has come on strong in his last two starts, allowing just one goal in a win against the Montreal Canadiens on November 15.

Scott Hartnell opened the scoring with less than a minute left in the first period, and after a scoreless second, center Jeff Carter recorded his team-leading 12th and 13th goals of the season for the Flyers' (8-6-4) in the third.

Philadelphia's defense killed off penalties late in the first and third periods.

Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller had 22 saves, but is just 1-4-1 in his last six starts. The Sabres (9-7-3) have lost four in a row.
