NEW YORK—Zach Parise scored the only goal in a shootout to lift the New Jersey Devils to a 6-5 victory over the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

The loss ended the Capitals' five-game winning streak and snapped a four-game skid by the Devils whose netminder Scott Clemmensen saved each of Washington's three shootout shots.

The Capitals had forced overtime on Alex Ovechkin's second goal of the game, a dramatic score with less than a second to go in regulation.

Patrik Elias scored twice and had an assist for the Devils, and David Clarkson, Jamie Langenbrunner and Brian Gionta scored goals.

Nicklas Backstrom had a hand in all five Washington goals, scoring one and assisting on four others.

The Capitals' Alexander Semin, the league's leading scorer, missed the game with an undisclosed injury.
