Indians Pitcher Cliff Lee Wins AL Cy Young Award

NEW YORK—Cleveland Indians left-hander Cliff Lee was named the American League Cy Young Award winner as best pitcher for the 2008 season.

The 30-year-old Lee posted a 22-3 record with an earned run average of 2.54 for the Indians, who were 81-81 for the season. He picked up 24 of the 28 first-place votes.

Roy Halladay of the Toronto Blue Jays finished second in the balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. The right-hander, 20-11 with a 2.78 ERA, received the other four first-place votes.

Tim Lincecum, 18-5 with a 2.62 ERA for the San Francisco Giants, was named the National League's Cy Young winner.
