The Ford Edge sits up high, and is comfortable while giving a clear and commanding view of any vehicles that are just ahead of or beside the SUV. The instrument panel is easy to read with settings, icons, and knobs that are easy to understand and use.

My Edge had charcoal black leather-trimmed seats with grey Alcantara suede seat inserts and contrast stitching. The EasyFold feature is a second-row seatback release switch in the cargo area and a unique etched metal center finish panel. The rear cargo management system makes storing cargo easier and the Sirius Satellite Radio makes for good audio. Ambient interior lighting cuts out the glare and the electrochromic auto-dimming rearview mirror deflects bright lights from the vehicles behind yours. The steering-wheel-mounted audio controls allow you to keep your eyes on the road when changing radio stations or sound volume.

The one feature that I found most innovative was Ford SYNC. This feature allows the in-car, voice-activated, fully integrated, entertainment and communication system to do wondrous things. SYNC gives drivers the ability to control Bluetooth wireless technology enabled mobile phones and virtually any digital media player and MP3 players with simple, intuitive voice commands, or the buttons on the steering wheel or radio.

Coming soon to SYNC are two key upgrades. The 911 and Vehicle Health Report will increase the functionality of the system as well as the user. Ford reports that at the current pace the system should pass the 1 million mark by 2009, and be available on virtually every 2009 Ford car, crossover, SUV, and light duty truck.

Ford recently received the “Top Safety Pick” award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.  The safety pick award recognizes vehicles that provide the best overall safety protection to passengers. Edge is the only vehicle in its class with roll stability control. Plus, Edge received a 5-star rating in frontal impact (driver-passenger) and side impact (front seat and rear).

The city MPG is 16 and highway MPG is 24. The week I drove the vehicle I didn’t get more than 21 MPG even though most of the driving was on the highway.

Dual chrome exhaust tips, fog lamps, keyless entry keypad, and power mirror with pdl. lamps are just some of the exterior features that make the Edge fun and fashionable to drive.

The Edge just described sells for around $36,000, plus delivery charges.
