"I think it's phenomenal so far," said Mr. Troccolo during intermission, after having seen for the first time ever a true traditional Chinese culture show.
The costumers with their kaleidoscope of colors caught his eyes: "I absolutely loved the costumes. Each one is more intricate than the last and I think the use is phenomenal."
He added, "I liked when they specifically matched the dancers costumes, the pinks and the greens matched."
Mr. Troccolo also thought the technical aspects of the show were outstanding: "The last one, when the girl went up to heaven? I thought that was a pretty neat affect."
He thought the Shen Yun show would be a wonderful Christmas present for his mother, who is employed in newspaper advertising.
"I was actually walking through the mall trying to come up with a good Christmas present and this was it. I was just like, 'you know, this is going to be a lot of fun, and it is,'" Mr. Troccolo said, delighted with his decision to buy tickets to the Shen Yun show.
Shen Yun use classical Chinese dance to revive traditional Chinese culture. Many of the pieces in the performance are legends and stories, drawing upon China's five-thousand year old cultural traditions.
'Singers were really incredible'
Mr. Eliot Sommer, employed in the real estate industry, stopped by to share his thoughts about the show."I liked it very much. The dancing was very fluid and the costumes where just exquisite," he said. "It was very interesting how the projector did the work in the background. That was very well done and the singers were really incredible. They had marvelous voices."
He was referring to the backdrop that enhanced the different acts with pictures from China, and which also showed translations of the songs into English, helping him and everyone in the audience understand the words of the songs.
Another couple, Mr. Boucher and wife, took the opportunity to share their thoughts about the performance. Mr. Boucher is a State Highway Department employee, and recipient of an Adult Good Samaritan Award.
"It’s very good. Very entertaining. Very nice, very lively and very bright! My wife is enjoying it," she said.
Ms. Boucher agreed with her husband and said, "Oh, very colorful. Very colorful, very nice and very good!
"Very well put together," said Mr. Boucher admiringly.
Having learned more about Chinese culture, through stories from past to present, Mr. Boucher said, "That’s good to learn, definitely. Good to hear about."
