LOS ANGELES—Lawyer Joe Iacopino thoroughly enjoyed the Shen Yun Performing Arts show at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center, where he attended with his wife and two sons on Feb. 6.

Mr. Iacopino expressed his delight: “The choreography was good and the dancers were excellent and fun to watch ... I liked the dance, I liked the orchestra, I liked the color, and the costumes were fantastic. Really great costumes, and the dancers all had this countenance, and they all danced in unison, so it was really a great show.”

His youngest of two sons added, “I liked how they told the story without talking. ... It was pretty creative.”

All three Shen Yun Performing Arts companies traveling the world include dance performances that illustrate rich stories while introducing audiences to China’s ancient traditional culture.

Shen Yun Performing Arts, established in 2006, has a vision of cultural renewal of what has been suppressed by the communist state over the past few decades, including the expression of a culture that had been divinely inspired.

Mr. Iacopino commented, “I could relate to the spiritual aspect of the show and they appeared to be trying to promote good over evil and freedom over restraint, things like that and so those are themes I’m ok with. I'm all for that.”

The special effects made the heavenly scenes appear almost magical. “I loved that special effect. I had never seen that before,” said Mr. Iacopino, referring to the state-of-the-art 3-D digital backdrops through which gods come alive on stage. “All of a sudden they would appear on stage and disappear and back up into the clouds.” His son agreed, “Yes, that was really cool!”

Shen Yun will perform in Los Angeles at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center Friday Feb. 5 through Sunday Feb. 14.
