The world’s largest “braised pork” gemstone made its public debut on January 27 in an antique shop in central China's Luoyang City, Henan Province.
The extraordinary 23 kg gemstone was found by a Mr. Li from Yu Bao Xuan in a river crossing nearby Funiushan Mountain in Henan Province, according to Chinese media.
The stone has a clear, multilayered structure, and bears a striking resemblance to a piece of braised pork, with hairs and pores on the surface, and what looks like muscle tissue and a leg bone.
Reportedly, the gemstone is displayed in its natural state and has not been cut or polished to improve its appearance.
The official translation of the “braised pork” gemstone is Yellow Wax Stone. According to an article from jade158.com, such stones are typically composed of silicified andesite and silicified siltstone, with an oil-like surface and waxy texture. They’re mainly found in southern China's Guangxi and Guangdong provinces.
Mr. Li said he will publicly exhibit the stone at the International Cultural Industries Fair which will be held in May this year in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
According to the exhibitor from the Yu Bao Xuan antique shop where the stone is being kept, this is the largest braised pork gemstone in the world. The second largest is held at the National Palace Museum in Taiwan and is valued at 130 million yuan (approximately US$19 million). That one is supposed to be much smaller than Mr. Li’s, and has already been cut and polished.
