SOCCER AL (BRISBANE)

Melbourne star Kevin Muscat refused to shake hands with Brisbane rival Matt McKay after the Victory's 1-0 A-League win at Brisbane last night.

They clashed in the second half and had to be separated by referee Ben Williams.

In last night's other game, Central Coast Mariners thumped North Queensland Fury 5-1 at Townsville.

Today, Newcastle host Wellington and Sydney FC play Perth.


SOCCER AL VIDMAR (ADELAIDE)

Adelaide United have banned coach Aurelio Vidmar for two A-League matches following comments Vidmar made about taking his players to Saudi Arabia where he could chop their heads off.

Vidmar has also been fined $10,000 for the flippant remark.


WC10 FRANCE (DUBLIN)

Ireland football officials have acknowledged they won't get a replay of their World Cup play-off against France.

Ireland had twice appealed to Fifa and to the French Football Federation to have the second leg of the play-off replayed because of Thierry Henry's handball.


RUGBY TESTS (LONDON)

New Zealand have beaten England 19-6 in their one-off rugby Test at Twickenham.

World champions South Africa ended their three-match losing run with a 32-10 victory over Italy at Udine and Wales beat Argentina 33-16 at Cardiff.

CYCLING WORLD (MELBOURNE)

The Australian track cycling team capped their domination of the Melbourne World Cup round with three gold medal rides last night.

Anna Meares won the women's 500m time trial and the keirin while Shane Perkins won the men's sprint.

Australia topped the points with eight gold medals from 17 events .... Meares won three to be the meet's most successful rider.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

SWIM WORLD (SINGAPORE)

Swimmer Matthew Abood set one of two World Cup short-course best times at the Singapore meet, clocking 45.46 in the men's 100-metre freestyle.

Fellow Australian Sarah Katsollis scored an upset win in the 100-metre breaststroke, beating American Jessica Hardy and world record holder Leisel Jones.

Blair Evans won the men's 800-metre freestyle.

GOLF EUROPE (DUBAI)

English golfer Lee Westwood is poised to win the European Tour's season-ending championship in Dubai and claim the top spot in the order of merit.

Veteran Westwood is 15-under for a two-stroke lead over fellow Englishman Ross McGowan.

 

 

 

 

MOTOR V8 (PERTH)

Ford's championship leader Jamie Whincup won yesterday's V8 Series race in Perth and leads Holden's Will Davison by 161 points heading into today's second race.

The season wraps up with two races in Sydney next month.

HOCKEY MEN (PERTH)

Jamie Dwyer has reconfirmed his status as one of the world's best hockey players by scoring a hat-trick of goals in Australia's 8-2 win over Spain in Perth.

The second Test will be played today before the Kookaburras head to Melbourne for the Champions Trophy.
