Currently, about 80 percent of the island’s 700,000 annual visitors are from Europe, according to Valerie Vulcain, marketing manager of the Martinique Promotion Bureau for the Americas. But the bureau is hoping to change that by attracting growing numbers from the Americas to its white sand beaches, rainforest adventures, French-Creole cuisine, and continental designer shopping.
Martinique was first claimed by France in 1635 and is famed as the birthplace of Napoléon's Empress Joséphine in 1763. Today, the island remains a region of France although it sits roughly 2,300 miles closer to New York City than to Paris.
One of the evening’s highlights, especially for Korean Ki Energy Grand Master, Sang Jin Lee, was winning a draw for two free flights to Martinique’s capital Fort-de-France, courtesy of American Airlines.
The event was held at the IchiUmi Seafood Buffet on E. 32nd St., in Manhattan and was co-hosted by New Tang Dynasty TV, a media partner of The Epoch Times.
