On this fourth rather short offering from Toronto’s master of elegant melancholy, Howie Beck is musically more extrovert while retaining the intimate nature of his songs.
There’s a laid back warmth that recalls the likes of fellow Canadian Hayden, with whom he has collaborated, with added uplifting melodies thrown in. But compared to the one really strong song, ‘Flashover’, some of the other offerings—though really pleasant—feel a little incidental.
The jaunty pop that kicks things off with ‘Watch Out For The Fuzz’ gives way to a real chill out zone, culminating in a beautiful, hushed and dreamy duet with Sarah Harmer.
