SYDNEY—Singer songwriter Alex Lloyd has overcome the pressure to bag the last semi-final spot on Celebrity MasterChef.

Lloyd beat comedian Peter Rowsthorn and Video Hits host Faustina 'Fuzzy' Agolley in the amateur cooking contest, on Network Ten on Wednesday night, impressing the judges with an elaborate sponge/ice-cream/ strawberry and tuille pastry dessert.

"The one thing I was dreading about the show was dessert," Lloyd told AAP.

"When my wife and I cook at home, she always cooks the dessert, she's the meticulous, neat, tidy kind of medical scientist, I'm the messy, happy go lucky creative dude."

It was far from easy for Lloyd.

His first dish, a prawn and ricotta ravioli, didn't go down well with the judges.

And, in the challenge test, Lloyd - who suffers dyslexia - had trouble following the recipe.

"I find if there's a lot of distractions or there's a pressure situation, I suffer a little bit," he said.

"The show is quite stressful, it's quite full on."

Lloyd now goes into the semi-final, against the likes of Miss Universe Australia Rachael Finch, cricketer Simon Katich, INXS muso and vocalist Kirk Pengilly, Biggest Loser trainer Michelle Bridges and swimmer Eamon Sullivan.

Outside MasterChef, Lloyd, who's based in the UK, is planning to get started on another album, and put behind him the court case, which he won last month, in which he was accused of stealing his 2001 hit song Amazing.

"It was a weird thing to have to go through in the first place, but it's good that it's over now," Lloyd said.
