AUCKLAND&mdash:The New Zealand PM has jokingly dangled a carrot in front of All Blacks captain Richie McCaw to inspire him to beat Australia and the rest of the world in the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

John Key, who recently brought back knighthoods in New Zealand, said McCaw would sound good with a "sir" in front of his name.

In a casual chat with the captain, the prime minister said he joked with McCaw that he might get one if he can finally pull off a championship win for the rugby-proud nation.

"I told him `It's very simple. You lose the Rugby World Cup and in my mind you will always be Richie McCaw, a great bloke.

`And you win the World Cup, it's 'arise, Sir Richard'."

Joking he might be, but it's well known that Kiwis, as hosts, have huge hopes to win.

New Zealand has not won the competition since it co-hosted the inaugural tournament with Australia in 1987.
