“In the United States, our domestic energy policy and our government policy is all over the place," said Mr. Schwarzenegger. "More and more businesses are realizing the importance of going green and the have put pressure on government to come up with legislation to pave the way for America’s environmental future.”
The governor was invited to commemorate the opening of the new Rafik B. Hariri Building at Georgetown University. Dean George Daly presented him with the Dean’s Medal.
Gov. Schwarzenegger said that he believes that the Obama Administration is heading in the right direction, and encouraged the U.S. government to lead the way in making an unwavering commitment to utilize clean energy.
“We now face a moment in history where we can reverse the damage and create a new economic foundation for the twenty-first century; a foundation that is built with clean fuels, clean cars, clean factories and clean energy,” said Mr. Schwarzenegger. “It will take maybe two decades.”
The governor also recognized Georgetown University and the Rafik B. Hariri Building commitment to looking to the future, reiterating a message of American progress. Rafik B. Hariri was a self-made billionaire from a family of modest means who rose to become Prime Minister of Lebanon. Hariri was assassinated in 2005 in Beirut.
Former honorees of the Dean’s metal have included Prince Philipp of Liechtenstein; former Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez, and Ann Misiaszek Sarnoff, chief operating officer of the Women’s National Basketball Association.
Gov. Schwarzenegger is recognized for his business and leadership achievements. Schwarzenegger earned a Business degree from the University of Wisconsin and he has authored multiple best selling books, including “Arnold: Education of a Bodybuilder” and “Pumping Iron.” Gov. Schwarzenegger is also recognized for his self-marketing and management of his film career.
Gov. Schwarzenegger’s daughter Christina currently attends Georgetown University and wife Maria Schriver is an alumna.
