Toyota unveiled its new hybrid sedan "Sai" on Tuesday the 20th - a day ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show.

[Takeo Moriai, Asst. Manager, Product Planning]:
"Sai has listed mileage of 23 kilometers per liter. We also used ecological plastic for Sai, which is made from plant-derived materials, so overall Sai has low CO2 emissions and is extremely friendly to the environment."

The Sai sedan is the second hybrid-only model under the Toyota brand after the Prius. It’s a repackaged version of the Lexus HS250h which went on sale in June.

[Takuji Nakamoto, Product Placement Director]:
"As part of our plan to enhance the prevalence of hybrid cars, we are expanding our lineup of hybrid-only models and the 'Sai' is our second model.”

Toyota will build the Sai in its plant in southern Japan.

The Sai will go on sale on December 7, starting at a little over $37,000 U.S. dollars.

Toyota aims to sell 36,000 Sais a year in Japan and one million annually worldwide so on after 2010.
