Taylor Swift to Host ‘SNL’
Country music star Taylor Swift will host “Saturday Night Live” on November 7. The 19-year-old was recently the subject of news headlines when her MTV Video Music Award acceptance speech was interrupted by hip-hop artist Kanye West. West expressed his disagreement with Swift’s award, exclaiming that it should have gone to Beyonce, whose “Single Ladies” video was one of the “best videos of all time.” Of “SNL” Swift told AP, “There are definitely some hilarious things that have happened to me over the past couple of months that I think will be pretty substantial skits.”
Nicolas Cage Sues Former Manager
Actor Nicolas Cage accuses his former business manager Samuel Levin of negligence and fraud in a $20 million law suit filed in Los Angeles. The suit alleges that Levin was dishonest with the actor about his financial position and made many high risk investments, forcing Cage “down a path toward financial ruin." Despite an extraordinarily successful film career, Cage claims he is now "forced to sell major assets and investments at a significant loss and is faced with huge tax liabilities because of Levin's incompetence, misrepresentations, and recklessness." The actor realized his situation only recently, upon hiring a new business manager.
Executive Changes at World Wrestling Entertainment
Shane McMahon, executive vice president of Global Media and son of Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon, has resigned from World Wrestling Entertainment. The departing McMahon stated, "It has been an incredible experience to help build WWE into a global phenomenon. However, having been associated with this organization for the majority of my life, I feel this is the opportune time in my career to pursue outside ventures."
Fergie Works with Avon
Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie is teaming up with beauty company Avon. The first project in the new collaboration will come in the form of a fragrance to be released in the summer of 2010. The star will appear on behalf of the company this month at the Annual Avon Foundation for Women. Of the partnership, Fergie told Women’s Wear Daily, “Avon has really allowed my personality to come through.”
Clint Eastwood Honored in France
Actor Clint Eastwood received the Prix Lumiere at the inaugural Grand Lyon Film Festival on Saturday. Eastwood said, “I consider France my second home,” as he accepted his award. The new festival centers on restorations, revivals, and retrospectives and is the creation of Cannes Film Festival head Thierry Fremaux. Eastwood is currently shooting in France his new film, “Hereafter,” which stars Matt Damon.
