TORONTO—The connection between the ancient cultures of India and China did not escape an officer with India's tourism office in Toronto who took in Shen Yun Performing Arts at the historic Canon Theatre on Sunday.
"It’s magical. I’m speechless. It’s fantastic. It may be entertainment for others; for me, it was the triumph of truth over lies. It’s all about the justice. It was a fantastic show," said Mr. Tripathi.
Shen Yun is a classical Chinese dance company based in New York. Its all-original productions include a symphony orchestra that combines both Eastern and Western classical instruments. The company presents classical Chinese dance and music. The story-based dances depict different themes ranging from ancient Chinese legends to folk dances; some of the dances are based on contemporary struggles of faith in the face of oppression under the country's current authoritarian regime. Mr. Tripathi found these particularly moving.
He said he also enjoyed the colors, singing, music, and choreography of the performances.
"Everything’s fantastic. At the end of the day, it’s all about the hope.... I am speechless."
Shen Yun finished this run of Toronto shows on Sunday but is scheduled to return in January as part of its 2010 world tour with an all-new program of dance, song, and music. For more information, visit www.ShenYunPerformingArts.org .
