Ethnic Chinese audience members Mr. Zheng and Mr. Mai, who attended the matinee, were delighted with the show which portrays traditional Chinese culture through classical Chinese dance, and ancient art form.
“The Shen Yun show was very well done; the classical Chinese dances were very well done,” said Mr. Zheng.
He especially enjoyed the male drummers in Drummers of the Tang Court and the female dancers in Welcoming Spring.
“Shen Yun Performing Arts has great representations in both classical Chinese dance and music. This art form is truly wonderful,” he said.
Mr. Mai was impressed by the two bilingual hosts who introduced each performance in both Chinese and English.
“They spoke well, and also the meaning got translated very well. They spoke in very standard Chinese and English,” he said, adding that the meaning was so clear that the translation must have been done “by someone who was very literate or professional."
Mr. Mai added that he regretted not bringing binoculars. He was late buying a ticket by which time the seats close to the stage were all sold out.
“I will get a closer seat next time,” he said.
New York-based Shen Yun is scheduled to return to Canada in January with its all-new 2010 program. For more information visit www.ShenYunPerformingArts.org.
