TORONTO—Shen Yun Performing Arts attracted a wide variety of Torontonians to its original presentation of Chinese classical dance at Toronto's Canon Theatre on Saturday. The performance night made an impression on one couple who saw the show.

"Everything is excellent. The dance is something new that I have never seen before," said Mr. Sanjakdar, the owner of a high-end manufacturing business that he has run for nearly 30 years.

"I went to Hong Kong last year, and I have not seen any of this kind of stuff there. So when I saw this at the mall, I bought the ticket right away. I would like to see more and more," he said.

"It’s exciting.”

Mr. Sanjakdar has a daughter who was a dancer and this has given him some insight into the skills being presented, he said.

"I really watched everybody’s dancing, timing, standings, movements. It’s really nice actually. It’s really beautiful stuff. Like I said, it’s something I have never seen before. I am really into it, to see how the performers, how they act, how they move, and how they work together."

He said he was happy to have made it to the show and when asked about the artistic abilities of the dancers, he said "They’re excellent. They have done a beautiful job."

Shen Yun takes much of its inspiration from China's rich history of over 5,000 years. But the company has also innovated, bringing together a symphony orchestra that combines both Eastern and Western musical instruments.

"The music is really nice. It’s something I have never heard before."

Mrs. Sanjakdar said she agreed completely with her husband's comments.

Shen Yun will stage one more show on Sunday before leaving Toronto. In 2010 the company is planning to return with an all-new program.
