Much maligned in some quarters for their stadium filling tearjerkers, Snow Patrol are clearly men with a breadth of knowledge when it comes to other peoples’ music. On this, LateNightTales’ 22nd outing as a compilation for people who can’t be bothered selecting their own post-pub playlist, they have made a decent fist of soundtracking our twilight hours. Opening with ‘Observatory Crest’ an excellent track taken from Captain Beefheart’s oft forgotten sane period, and including such delights as the loping ‘I Walk the Earth’ by King Biscuit Time and the quite beautiful ‘Download’ from Super Furry Animals’ classic Radiator album, this compilation is rarely off target.
