My mother always taught me the importance of good grooming, as in "A lady is always well groomed" or, "It's so important to be well groomed." I know I sound like something out of the Victorian era now, but I still believe grooming is important.
So often, I walk in the street and cringe at how slovenly some women dress. When your shoes are scuffed and rundown at the heels, you are not well groomed. When a white shirt is dingy, you are not well groomed.
So many women seem to think bra straps are supposed to show. They're not. I realize most women think, "Let them show, everyone does," but they are not supposed to show. Nothing looks more sloppy than black bra straps alongside the straps of a white tee. And the straps aren't peeking out—they're worn proudly as if the wearer assumes they're designed to show. It looks terrible.
If you polish your nails, wonderful. If you decide not to polish, also fine, but it can't be in between. Chipped polish looks awful. So often I see women with chipped polish, and I don't mean a tiny chip here or there. I mean polish on one nail and not another, one nail half-polished. Once it starts chipping, remove all the polish and start fresh, please!
While on the subject of nails, when they're bitten and dirty, how disgusting. I've never bitten mine, but I understand it's a terrible habit to break. But please try, for your own sake and anyone looking at you.
