Text Kirk Cameron Takes Aim at Darwinian Theory
Actor Kirk Cameron, best known for his portrayal of Michael Seaver in the 1980s sitcom “Growing Pains,” is promoting a project that aims to counter the ideas of Charles Darwin. Cameron and the Christian ministry, Living Waters, will give away 100,000 copies of a new edition of Darwin’s “Origin of the Species” that includes an introduction outlining counter arguments to the controversial theory of evolution. The book will be given away to students at 100 top U.S. universities. A video featuring Cameron extolling the goals of the project has been circulating online.
Polanski Arrested in Switzerland
Director Roman Polanski was taken into custody on Saturday upon his arrival in Switzerland for the Zurich Film Festival. The 78-year-old Oscar winner had been evading United States authorities since fleeing to France in the late 1970s after pleading guilty to charges related to an improper relationship with a 13-year-old girl. Plans for his extradition are not yet known. The countries of France and the director’s native Poland are appealing on his behalf. Polanski is best known for films such as “Rosemary’s Baby” and “Chinatown.”
Elder Russert Passes Away
Timothy J. Russert, father of the late NBC news man Tim Russert, passed away on Thursday. “Big Russ,” as he was known, was the subject of his son’s best-selling book, “Big Russ & Me.” He was a veteran of World War II and worked as a sanitation truck and newspaper delivery truck driver in South Buffalo. He was 85.
Teri Hatcher Hosts Garage Sale
“Desperate Housewives” star Teri Hatcher held a garage sale at her home on Saturday. The actress reportedly raised $20,000 for various local charities in Los Angeles. Invited guests paid $50 to shop the luxurious selection on display, according to “People.” Guests included actress Camryn Manheim and “Glee's” Jane Lynch.
Jaime Pressly Weds
Actress Jaime Pressly married entertainment lawyer Simran Singh on Saturday in Malibu at the estate of Dick Clark. They have been engaged since July. Of her upcoming marriage, the actress recently told “Us” magazine, “I'm looking forward to being a Mrs. I'm very excited to be in a partnership and have some stability that I haven't had before in my life.”
