NEW YORK—Internet radio phenomenon Last.fm is taking its act to the HD airwaves, CBS Interactive Music Group said last week.
Last.fm, the free music and social networking Web site, will take over CBS’s HD multicast stations in four markets—New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco starting—Oct. 5.
In a press conference in New York last week, David Goodman of CBS said that the broadcasts will feature aggregated weekly music charts submitted by Last.fm’s users, as well as live performances and interviews with artists.
The service will be available online at Last.fm and Yahoo! Music, over the airwaves using an HD receiver, as well as Last.fm’s applications for the Apple iPhone/iPod Touch and BlackBerry.
“This will give us greater ability to generate more awareness of Last.fm in the U.S. and we’re going to be promoting HD radio heavily,” Goodman told ARS Technica.
