Honda Motor Company says its stool-sized mini-personal transporter may be the future of indoor transportation in Japan.
The unicycle unit, called U3-X, is shaped like the number eight and can be steered by leaning in the direction the rider wants to travel.
It weighs only 22 pounds and runs for about an hour on a lithium-ion battery.
Similar to Dean Karen’s Segway Transporter, but more compact, the U3-X is small and light enough to use at home.
It’s a little more than two feet tall and goes as fast as about four miles an hour.
"I am convinced that this new mobility unit, which uses the balance technology we developed through our research on the Asimo robot, will bring us a step closer to creating a fun transportation mode that will also open the way forward to infinite possibilities," said Takanobu Ito the CEO of Honda Motor Company.
Ito says the U3-X is still in the development stage and Honda has no plans to sell it yet.
