PORTLAND, Maine—On Sunday, the Merrill Auditorium hosted another fabulous Shen Yun Performing Arts show.
The audience, among them the Plante family, was amazed to see this New York based Company bringing true Chinese traditional art through dance, song and music to their part of the woods.
"I’ve read a little bit about it [the show], studied a little Chinese and this is just such a treat to see—all this beautiful dancing and costumes. I really enjoy it," Mr. Plante, who works in retail networks and security, shared.
He continued, "Oh my goodness, the last one I saw—the drummers [Drummers of the Tang Court] was beautiful but they were all beautiful, I mean they are really something in their own way. Very well done."
"He said it all—the costumes, the movements, it’s all just divine. And learning about the culture, the way it’s put together is wonderful. When they come out and they talk about each dance, I love it. It’s just wonderful," Mrs. Plante joined into the conversation.
This is the first time the Plante's saw a Chinese show, be it traditional culture or anything else. But, their curiosity inspired them go after receiving one of the beautiful flyers.
"I got something in an email from this place and that was it, I said ’We’re going!’ It was wonderful. There was no choice," added Mr. Plante.
The Plante family was quite interested to hear that the Shen Yun group is a popular show worldwide and travels frequently to other continents.
"It’s kinda fascinating about the culture too right now at this point that they’re not allowing them to continue, over in China, the Performing Arts," Ms. Plante wanted us to know.
Before saying goodbye, Mr. Plante said, "It was just wonderful that it’s over here and [we are] being able to see this. It’s just such a wonderful thing to share, this culture."
When the Plante's left for home, Mr. Hamilton wanted to say a few words before heading on home. "Very well done ... I liked the drumming [Drummers of the Tang Court].
Performers 'Extremely talented'
At the same time, Mr. Pecci, a retired marine biologist and Ms. Linda shared that they enjoyed the show.
"I thought it was great," Mr. Pecci said.
"I liked the colors and the costumes. And everyone was extremely talented. It was very entertaining," he continued.
Shen Yun will be traveling to Canada to perform in Toronto October 9–11.
