I agree with Arthur Wiegenfeld’s position in his article 'The False Promise of Alternative Power' (Aug. 27, 2009) on nuclear power. It is the most appropriate method for generating electricity. However, there are two major barriers before nuclear energy can be used in the longer term: First is safety and second is removing the heat created by the nuclear electric power generation process.

As a former employee of the Institute of Nuclear Safety of the Russian Academy of Science (http://www.ibrae.ac.ru/), I am familiar to some extent with these problems.
